Geodetic study on earth surface loading with GNSS and GRACE

چکیده

Abstract Ice, snow, and liquid water on the surface of Earth exert downward force onto solid earth deform lithosphere typically in seasonal timescale. Space techniques, such as Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), made it possible to directly measure subtle displacements caused by loading. We can also observe loads with time-variable gravity using recovery climate experiment satellites. These techniques an attracting scientific target modern geodesy. In this paper we briefly review history geophysical studies through geodetic observations crustal deformation gravity. advanced topics short-term due severe meteorological episodes monitoring terrestrial storages. present a few related change obliquity artificial subsidence signals snow accretion GNSS antenna radomes.

Bringing GRACE Down to Earth.

Introduction NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), which is a joint mission of the United States and Germany, uses a pair of coupled satellites to measure spatial and temporal changes in the Earth’s gravity field. From these data, estimates of changes (time-variable anomalies) in mass are derived. In turn, the mass changes are attributed primarily to changes in water content (...

Modeling deformation induced by seasonal variations of continental water in the Himalaya region: Sensitivity to Earth elastic structure

Strong seasonal variations of horizontal and vertical positions are observed on GPS times series from stations located in Nepal, India and Tibet (China). We demonstrate that this geodetic deformation is induced by seasonal variations of continental water storage driven by the Monsoon. For this purpose, we use satellite data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) to determine t...

Characterizing the Seasonal Crustal Motion in Tianshan Area Using GPS, GRACE and Surface Loading Models

Complex tectonic and non-tectonic movements exist in the Tianshan area. However, we have not acquired good knowledge of such movements yet. In this study, we combine Global Positioning System (GPS), the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and Surface Loading Models (SLMs) data to study the seasonal vertical crustal displacements in the Tianshan area. The results show that all three ...
